Red Carpet Radio, bringing you closer to the artists making the music. Amy MacDonald, with her new single This Pretty Face, an attack of the whole subject matter of celebrity culture.
"If I like a song on the radio, I'm not not going to buy it just because the person doesn't look immaculate.
Amy, who is the fiancee of 27-year-old Aberdeen striker Steve Lovell, has caused much mirth, as one of her most cutting songs, Footballer's Wife, is considered a diatribe against women who date footballers.
Amy says the key to her success is talent not gimmicks
Red Carpet Radio`s Roy Sandbrook & John Devlin recently spent some quality time backstage at Wolverhampton Civic Theatre with the UK #1 Mrs Rock & Roll.. Amy Macdonald.
Roy - Greetings Amy your on Red Carpet Radio
Amy - Red Carpet Radio
JD - Red Carpet Radio on Tinternet!
Amy - Aaah right, very good.
Roy - For a young lady you showed great stage presence and appear to have great fun with the band and confidently telling stories in between songs during your performance here at Wolves Civic.
Amy - Why Thanks, I`m quite overwhelmed with it all really. I was up at 4am this morning for a shoot with GMTV at 7.30am.
JD - Blimey, I hope you got well pampered at that time of the morning to wake you up.
Amy - Yeah it was nice, they do a good breakfast with plenty of OJ & Croissants.
Roy - Busy times for Amy Macdonald then, 4am start for GMTV, various radio interviews during the day and here we are Tuesday night 11:30pm recently off stage after another sell out show.
Amy - Yeah, life on the road is quite manic but we have great fun touring & meeting so many people. I was at a party recently with Paul Wellar ( my hero ) and Steve Craddock from Ocean Colour Scene, I joked to Steve, why not join us in Wolverhampton for a wee jam, and to my complete surprise he agreed there & then.
Roy - Great stuff, the crowd`s reaction was brilliant when you introduced Steve Craddock onstage for a rendition of The River Boat Song.
Amy - Yep it was quite thrilling for me too, I totally love that song and to perform it with Steve in Wolverhampton was quite something.
JD - During your set, you also covered The Killers. Mr Brightside
Amy - Yeah did you like it?
JD - Certainly did, Its a fast song, did it take you long to remember all the lyrics.
Amy - No, Its another brilliant song and a close favourite of mine, so I kinda know songs like that inside out from the musical arrangement to the lyrics.
Roy - Why not change the lyrics to Mrs. Brightside?
Amy - ( Laughs ) erm...No!
Roy - Well I gotta say Amy, The first time I heard Mr Rock & Roll, I was driving down the M42 when it came on the radio. I thought to myself `ooh great, Delores O`Riordian from The Cranberries has released her first solo record.
Amy - Well, I take that as a compliment but I dont strive to sound like the Cranberries or anybody else from that unique genre of music. My Influences are with Paul Wellar The Jam, Travis & The Libertines, I here great riffs from these Artists and think Yes, thats real passion you can hear coming from the heart and sole of the Guitar.
JD - Tell us about the Anthemic feel good track `Lets Start A Band`
Amy - Well, I`m glad you asked that. We love to play that song Live, its quite an orchestral arrangement that starts off as a ballad and slowly builds to a rousing crescendo.
John the Tour manager reminds us at this point that Amy had been up since 4am and still had a gathering of fans waiting outside by the tour bus for the respectful photo shoots & cd signings.
Roy - Amy Macdonald, Thanks very much indeed for taking time out on RCR, All the best with the new single This Pretty Face. Listeners & viewers can click your website right now for tickets, tours & gig info.
